Following on from last weekends match on the Isle Of Wight where we came from 2 down to win 3-2, Wey Valley made life hard for themselves once again. Despite having a huge majority of possession and looking controlled on the ball and dangerous going forward, we struggled early to create any clear openings. Our opponents soaked up the pressure and were clinical when chances came their way and found themselves 3-1. Another goal for the home side meant that at 3-2, we were right back in it.

A team talk that consisted of remaining calm and keep doing the same things was communicated, as well as a need to keep things tight at the back. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to do the latter and Wellesley found a 4th early in the 2nd half.

A sign of real improvement with the ball but still problems to solve defensively. If we can play like that we will win more games than we lose but we have to stop giving ourselves hills to climb by giving other teams multiple goal head starts – Chris Welch, Manager

But Wey Valley fought back once again and showed great determination and resiliance to claw their way into a winning position at 5-4 with just 10 minutes or so remaining. Our opponents mounted an offensive during the final stages, pushing hard for a draw but we managed to hold out for a deserved win and a very important 3 points.

Goals:

Player Of the match – Lee cole

Last week there was a noticeable improvement in the team when Lee dropped into midfield to help us win the game. This week he was in midfield from the start and quickly asserted himself and was involved in almost everyting in the game. Linking with everyone, winning headers and driving the team forward. He also bagged himself a lovely free kick and another penalty to help bring home the 3 points.

Next Opponents – Hart United (a)

Next up for us, is a trip to league leaders Hart United who beat us convincingly just a few weeks ago. A much improved performance is needed against strong opposition if we are to get a result, but if we can build on the great football we played here, we stand every chance of coming home with something.
